Cosmology

Many aspects of Aelrosian life is governed by the passage of the cosmos.

Calendar and Time

Aelros makes use of a 420 day calendar, with seventeen months of twenty-four days each. There are six days in every week, allowing for four weeks in every month. A single day consists of twenty-four hours.

The Convergence

Throughout Aelros there can be found many naturally occurring connections to other worlds, similar to Aelros. Similar in that they have the same approximate amount of land and water, have a sun, stars and possibly a moon, and are spherical in shape. They have the same approximate gravity, and a breathable atmosphere. Where the worlds differ is in the inhabitants and environment.

Aelrosian experts have defined the situation as a "convergence", meaning that Aelros is stuck in the middle of a multi-world traffic jam. This magical reaction means that denizens and influences from these other worlds have spilled into Aelros, creating a mixing pot of species and forces.

While a massive number of converging worlds exist, there are five major ones with the greatest number of connections. When another world has a close connection to a region of Aelros, that region will begin to exhibit the properties of the imposing world. Sometimes it even means that a direct link between the two will open up. It is for this reason that one region of Aelros can be dramatically different than another, despite their close proximity.

The five other worlds, having no unified names for them, were named in the year -1003 AC, by one Ymarn Ukchak, an extremely influential orcish scholar, whose studies were centuries, if not millennia, ahead of their time.

  • The Aberrant Seas (heroic, paragon) - an endless spawning ground and twisted reflecting pool of the natural.
  • The Elemental Forgelands (epic) - a mess of primal ingredients, and home of the demons.
  • The Feyborn Jungle (paragon, epic) - where the meek have inherited the world.
  • The Immortal Plains (epic) - eternal battleground of devils, angels and the champions of gods.
  • The Natural (heroic, paragon) - Aelros and the natural world.
  • The Shadowmire (heroic, paragon, epic) - final resting place for the souls of the cosmos.

Non-convergent Theories

There are many theories regarding the Convergence and the source of the other worlds. The three leading concepts are that each world is another world somewhere in the universe, somehow connected through magical energies, or that each other world is part of a separate universe or plane that exists in close magical proximity to Aelros, or that each world is an alternate version of Aelros, and represents a certain facet of Aelros' magical essence. No single theory holds any more fact than the others, with all three having solid supporting evidence.

Deities

All deities are omnipresent across the cosmos. They exist in all of the converging worlds, though not always in the same form.
