Campaign Setting For Players For Game Masters Help |
Main /
CharacterCreationIf you are unfamiliar with the Path of the Nomad campaign custom rules, then you should probably see the House Rules section for a few important changes before you continue. Allowed ContentPlayers may use the following resources to build their new characters:
Rule ZeroYour game master always, without question, possesses veto power over your character. If they don't like it, they don't have to allow it at their table. So just because you can build it with the rules, doesn't mean it's legal at every game. Make sure your game master is comfortable with the character you are playing. Additional Player RacesThere are also several exclusive Path of the Nomad races that can be chosen at character creation, as shown on the campaign resources page. Level and EquipmentNew characters are created using the standard 22 point creation method. They begin play at first level with 100 silver (See the economy page for details). It is possible for a character to begin play at higher level, as shown below. Character SponsorsAt the expense of the ability to partake in additional ongoing quests, your character may benefit from being directly associated with a long term sponsor. More details can be found on the sponsor organizations page. Importing CharactersIt is possible to import a character into Path of the Nomad from another campaign. You will need to provide some kind of proof of level. If your character is from a shared setting, bring their log sheets, if not, you will need to contact a PotN campaign staffer. This process can also be used for characters that are not part of 4th edition D&D. In the end, your ability scores, abilities and equipment will all be brought in line to match that of other Path of the Nomad characters. Living Forgotten RealmsAll LFR characters are automatically considered playable in Path of the Nomad games at their current level, and may also be freely imported. There are a few restrictions in this regard, as detailed on the Living Forgotten Realms Transparency page. Starting at Higher LevelThere are several options available that allow players to begin play with higher level characters, including new players. These benefits are never required, should a player choose to start at level one and progress from there. Starting Wealth at Higher LevelWhen determining the wealth of your new character, you receive your wealth by level for a character of your level using preemptive experience only. Preemptive experience sources are marked as such. Aelrosian MettleAs a one time bonus, character's may complete a Special Event game called Aelrosian Mettle that awards 300 experience. This game can be completed at any time in a character's career, including before their first game, and can be mentored to any other player's characters (this must be recorded). Additional ResourcesPlayers that attend certain events, or that acquire certain items, may gain additional resources for their characters, such as experience, wealth or build points. For example, any player in possession of a Path of the Nomad business card gains additional resources for all of their new characters. These business cards are freely available in stores where Path of the Nomad games are played, or possibly acquired from other players. All special resources apply a maximum of once per character, though multiple special resources of different kinds are stackable. Trading In Characters (Preemptive)All Path of the Nomad characters can be traded in for a different character. Your new character starts with experience equal to half the amount of experience your previous character gained specifically from Path of the Nomad games. Aelrosian Mettle and bonus experience from special resources, for example, do not transfer. After a character has been traded in for a new character, it is no longer playable in any regard. The log sheets should be noted as such and attached to your new character, whose log sheet must reflect where the additional experience came from. Reward Coins (Preemptive)You can use player reward coins to create a new character with 2% of the total experience of your highest level character. This benefit is stackable, up to 100% for 50 coins. |
