Wealth

A Path of the Nomad character of a certain level should have equipment totaling the values presented below. When determining their total wealth, include all of the following:

  • cash
  • gems, art and jewelry
  • magic items (market price)
  • consumables (market price)
  • non-magical equipment (if under level 6)

At the game master's discretion they may include the following:

  • non-magical equipment (if level 6 or above)
  • rituals not gained from leveling (market price)
  • ritual components

Do not include the following:

  • tax exempt items (such as game master items)
  • strongholds
  • favours with monetary values
  • special items from major sponsors, unless purchased
  • rituals gained from levels

The following table gives the exact values for how much total wealth a character should have by the end of that level. That is, a level 6 character should have between 6g 28s, but not necessarily more than 8g 60s. It is measured in blue crowns, gold30 pieces and silver30 pieces. See the economy page for a detailed explanation of the various values.

Excessive Wealth

A character that has more than twice the values listed above in character wealth is at serious risk of a visit from the Tax Men, a vigilante organization that makes a living off of "taxing" adventurers.

Low Level Wealth

Lower heroic level characters are given more leniency with their wealth by level, as it is very easy to exceed it if they play in a few games with higher level characters. These characters should not be concerned with their wealth unless they approach triple the suggested value.

Tax Men Wealth by Level

Tax Collectors calculate their wealth by level differently than other characters. When determining wealth for characters with this sponsor, two separate totals are needed, foundation wealth and operating wealth. Both of these values are equal to their standard wealth by level, and if either value is greater than their wealth by level at the end of the game, it must immediately be reduced to the appropriate amount.

Foundation wealth includes . . .

  • cash
  • gems, art, jewelry
  • magic items (market price)
  • non-magical equipment
  • rituals not gained from leveling (market price)

Operating wealth includes . . .

  • consumables (market price)
  • ritual components

In order to prevent from losing large payoffs, a Tax Collector may set aside foundation wealth to be used for purchases between adventures. This wealth must be spent before the next adventure, or else it is lost.
