Campaign Setting For Players For Game Masters Help |
GMGuide /
QuestsQuests represent the feasible limits to which your character is capable of affecting the world. That is to say, they can only be in so many places at once. The quest system is designed to allow flexibility in how many games a character can play in, as well as flexibility regarding the passage of time during a game. Ideally, a character will have existed "in game" for approximately 420 days for every 365 real days. Try to keep this in mind when you're designing your adventure, so that you don't strain the believability of the setting. Quest LimitsA character may participate in up to three concurrent quests. A quest, quite simply, is a string of games. Most quests should be no more than four or five games in length. Tracking QuestsThe first three lines of the right most column on the character's log sheet are intended to be used for tracking quests. When a character is played during a game, write the name of the game or the name of the quest in one of the three available quest lines. If a quest is still ongoing after the game has ended, write "Quest" in the "Game Type" field. A character that has a sponsor permanently loses one of their available quest slots. In addition, a character that uses their secondary skills for profit must occupy a single quest slot with a quest entitled "Income" that completes immediately. If a quest slot is unavailable at the end of the game, they are too busy to spend time making money. Closed QuestA closed quest is just like any other quest, except that characters cannot complete or participate in any other quests while on a closed quest. In addition, a character that abandons a closed quest can only rejoin if the game master allows it (regardless of when the last game was played). Completing QuestsA quest is complete when the game master says it's complete, or the character abandons it. A character that completes a quest should write "Quest Completion", or something similar, in the "Game Type" field of the log sheet. "Income" quests do not need to be marked as complete, as they only last a single game, regardless. Abandoning QuestsA character that abandons a quest cannot return to the same quest. Mark on the last log sheet in which the quest was participated in that the quest was abandoned. The single exception to this rule is that character's are free to abandon and rejoin a quest that has not been run by its game master in more than two weeks. Treasure MigrationCharacters are free to take all rewards between quests, whether or not their current quests are complete. Special EventsIt is possible to run a game that does not occupy a quest slot, but such games are extremely special events and must be approved by campaign staff. These types of events include holiday events and conventions. A normal game will always occupy a quest slot. Special event quests should be recorded as "Special Event" under game type. Aelrosian MettleAs a one time bonus, character's may complete a Special Event game called Aelrosian Mettle that awards 300 experience. This game can be completed at any time in a character's career, including before their first game, and can be mentored to any other player's characters (this must be recorded). |
